Just another day on the FOB…last night we changed a power steering pump on one of the new trucks…brand new truck with a bad steering pump—where are the hummer dealerships so we can take this stuff in for warranty work…oh yeah, we are the ones to do the warranty work…also, one of the trucks has bad batteries…brand new trucks and already breaking down…it’s all good tho, it gives us something to do…so, we were supposed to get attacked last night, but I guess it was too cold for the bad guys or something…nothing happened, fortunately…I went outside to have a smoke and the commander and some of the civilian guys and a couple captains were all out at the smoke pit having Cuban cigars and Beck’s beer—non-alcoholic of course…they(mostly the commander I think) were celebrating the Patriots win, and undefeated season…so, I had a nice Cuban and a fake beer with the guys…the commander said, among other things, that he was the luckiest commander in world…he talked about how good we are as a PRT and as a military unit…he talked up me and my boys, about how we are maintaining the highest percentage of trucks in service in the whole country…I had to give credit to my guys and to the infantry guys for taking care of the trucks while they operate them on some of the worst roads any of us have ever traveled…getting coins and recognition from VIPs that roll thru is cool, but it really means a lot when we are just sitting around BSing and the commander tells me how happy he is with our work…even tho we, as mechanics, don’t think we are doing anything special—just our jobs—when the commander is happy and bragging about us to his peers, that’s a good feeling…well, I am off to the shop to swap out some batteries, and then hit the gym a little later…I guess that’s about all for now…still counting down the time…we are getting there…love you and miss you all

You are way too modest! It may not seem like a hard job to you and your guys since you are very experienced at fixing all kinds of vehicles with all kinds of problems, but it takes the perseverance and drive to keep up with each vehicle that comes in with a problem. You can’t afford to sit back and be lax since everyone there depends on those vehicles. Who would have EVER thought you’d turn out to be an ace mechanic, huh? Another reason we are proud of you!
